The EduQuest Training Program for Early Childhood Educators was conducted las March 13-15, 2007 at Sen. P.M. Lacson, Naic Cavite. It was participated by six teachers from Naic Elementary School namely Joan Antiniolos teacher from kinder; Marialyn S. Poblete and Sheryll H. Anit from grade I; Grace C. Madlangbayan and Romina M. Velasco both from grade II; Jinky Almirol from grade III. Also with us is Mrs. Araceli V. Santos our principal. How it was amazing for us because we don't know how to hands on computer. As the training goes on, with the help of our talented, patient trainors we learned how to use it little by little. On the third day of the training, we were all very happy because we went back to our school with this KIDSMART computer.
The computer was assembled in the vacant room for grade VI, with the help of Mr. Edgardo Dirain a grade V teacher. During our summer duty, which started April, we trained our co-teachers regarding this program. On April 24, Mrs. M.S. Poblete and Mrs. S.H. Anit started summer training with the incoming grade I pupils. We trained 14 pupils every Tuesday until May 8. The grade II pupils were trained every Wednesday by grade II teachers. There were 22 pupils who attended this summer training.
As the class opened, the principal told us that it would be better if we transfer the computer on the other side of the library. We seconded becaused it would be safer for the children because they will not go up the stairs. We asked again the help oof Mr. E. Dirain to transfer the computer downstairs beside the library. Our principal put a steel gate for its safety. During the summer training with the pupils, we have an informal training. There were students who can manipulate the computer and those who cannot, so we grouped them. For those who do not know how to use the computer, it was easier for them to answer the activities/exercises due to their prior knowledge when they were in kinder. They were very eager to answer the exercises presented. Every child was given 5 minutes to use the computer and after everybody was done, a new lesson was started. Millie's Math House and Bailey's Book House were our lessons during summer. You won't see the computer vacant because they all wanted to learn new lessons. Minsan nga nauuna pa sa teacher pagpasok at paghawak ng mouse. Ayaw nang bitiwan. As it goes on the pupils learned to listen and follow instruction given.
On the first week Of July after lunch time, we trainors cleaned the place where the computer was to be placed. We also planned a classroom layout and organized the different learning stations. We put tables and chairs for each station including the materials needed. We set our time scheduled. Being the coordinator of this program, my section was the first to visit the CBL area on the first day of August. On the first day, an orientation about the program was conducted including the different learning stations, all the different parts of the computer. During the second time, we visited again the lesson proper was introduced. Teachers from grades I, II and III also did what we've done. After our turn, grade II pupils started on the month of September while grade III started on the month of October as scheduled on the logbook. There were 7 sections from grade I; six sections from grade II and six sections from grade III. The children enjoyed having these lesson especially handling on the computer. "Hindi pa nga lumalabas ng room eh tinatanong na ulit kung kailan daw babalik para magcomputer."
They utilized computer as tools for the development of learning. It provides opportunities for students to work individually, in pair, in small groups and as a class. Although CBL was not really given emphasis, the contents and activities are merely the same with that. Using this CBL encouraged pupils to explore and discover concepts and ideas. Active involvement and participation developed among them. As a whole we can say that it made teaching easier, faster, and more effective.
Can we ask for more software to be installed in our computer? We do hope so. Please take the deepest gratitudes from the supervisor, principal, teachers, and pupils of Naic Elementary School, Naic I.
